If you are a friend of Sonic, you must have followed the turnaround in the project’s token distribution strategy. The platform reserved 92.2 million S tokens to fuel incentives in the coming periods, signaling a shift from the initial airdrop model.

The Context: From 190.5 Million to Repositioning

It all started in June 2025, when Sonic released 190.5 million S tokens. In the first half of the year and during the Kaito event, approximately 98 million were distributed. Now, with data from January 2026, the network has a circulation of 2.88 billion tokens against a total supply of 3.22 billion — numbers that reflect the post-airdrop scenario.

Why Change Strategy?

The first round of distribution had mixed results. On one hand, short-term metrics improved (more users, more engagement), but on the other hand, selling pressure intensified. Many holders started unloading their tokens immediately after receiving them, creating a downward pressure on the price.
