Abstract generation in progress

On March 13th, Xiaomi founder, Chairman, and CEO Lei Jun posted on social media that the new generation SU7 will finally be officially released this month.

Lei Jun said that two years ago, the nervousness before the launch of the first-generation SU7 still feels vivid. In the blink of an eye, the new generation SU7 is ready to go. Over the past two years, we have delivered more than 600,000 vehicles, including 380,000 units of the SU7. That was unimaginable at the time. Even today, it still feels incredible.

Many people have asked whether Xiaomi can make good cars in five years as a newcomer.

The achievements of the past two years prove Xiaomi Auto’s investment and strength. I understand that as a newcomer, we will inevitably face more scrutiny and tests. Only by continuously delivering indisputable results can we truly earn widespread recognition. This is the price of being a newcomer and the only way to build a “good car that stands the test of time.”

Five years is a long time, but also a short time.

Xiaomi’s journey in car-making has just begun, and we will do our best to refine our products further.

If someone asks me what the biggest change has been in the past two years, I think there are many. The biggest change is that we are more composed, calm, and follow our own rhythm, doing what we believe in. Building cars for Xiaomi is a marathon—taking steady steps forward, not rushing or competing excessively. Focusing and seriously making cars gives us a sense of relaxation and confidence.

For this generation of SU7, we announced it earlier, at the beginning of January, and stopped sales of the first-generation SU7 ahead of schedule, as well as started larger-scale pre-production—this reflects our composure and confidence.

Based on the first-generation SU7, after more than two years of refinement, the new SU7 has significantly improved in safety, driving control, intelligent experience, and luxury feel. Of course, costs have also increased considerably. We also informed everyone in advance that the new SU7 will definitely see a price increase because we believe owners will find the new generation better and more valuable.

Earlier, Xiaomi Auto announced a new color for the new SU7—“Indigo Stone Green,” and stated that all nine colors are now available: Capri Blue, Crimson Red, Indigo Stone Green, Flowing Gold Pink, Sunset Purple, Sparkling Magenta, Elegant Gray, Pearl White, and Obsidian Black.

On January 7th, Xiaomi officially announced the start of pre-orders for the new SU7. The model is available in Standard, Pro, and Max versions. The pre-sale prices are 229,900 RMB for the Standard, 259,900 RMB for the Pro, and 309,900 RMB for the Max.

On February 27th, Lei Jun said during a live broadcast, “Users are everything, safety is the foundation and prerequisite of everything. Safety is above all. Building a safe and good car has always been Xiaomi’s original intention. Xiaomi’s goal is to make the safest car in its class.”

Lei Jun also mentioned that Xiaomi Auto has made some safety upgrades for the new SU7, including the application of 2200MPa ultra-strong steel, upgrading to nine safety airbags across the entire vehicle, and adding anti-ballistic coating to the battery pack bottom. The vehicle is equipped with laser radar as standard to enhance safety redundancy.

“The new SU7 is equipped with triple-redundant door handles, which include mechanical pull structures and backup power sources, allowing doors to be opened mechanically from inside and outside,” Lei Jun said. “The door lock system has three layers of power protection: a large battery, a small battery, and a backup power source.”

Regarding the new generation SU7, Lei Jun previously stated during a February 10th live broadcast that the vehicle’s motor, battery, electronic and electrical architecture, high-voltage architecture, and chassis have all been upgraded. The door handles now meet the new national safety standards. “The changes in the new SU7 are comprehensive, from inside to outside—a generational upgrade,” Lei Jun emphasized.

Lei Jun revealed that the last first-generation Xiaomi SU7 has been produced and is on its way for delivery. This means the first-generation SU7 has been completely discontinued.

According to Xiaomi Auto’s official information, by February 2026, Xiaomi Auto’s deliveries will exceed 20,000 units. In January 2026, deliveries surpassed 39,000 units.

Lei Jun responded to the February delivery figures, saying, “Currently, the main vehicle on sale is the YU7.” Xiaomi Auto is also preparing for large-scale production of the new SU7.
