International Model OIC kicks off in Pakistan’s capital Islamabad
(MENAFN) An international Model Summit organized under the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) commenced on Monday in Islamabad, gathering young leaders, diplomats, and policy stakeholders to examine issues of diplomacy, cohesion, and sustainable development across the Muslim world.
The inaugural session took place at Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission, where speakers addressed the political, social, and economic pressures confronting Islamic countries and emphasized the growing importance of youth participation in shaping future policy directions.
Among those addressing the opening session were Taha Ayhan, head of the Islamic Cooperation Youth Forum (ICYF), and Fsahat Ul Hassan, founder and chief executive of the Youth Advocacy Network, who both highlighted youth-driven engagement as a catalyst for change.
The event also drew senior Pakistani officials and diplomats, including representatives linked to the Prime Minister’s Youth Program and former senior figures from the Foreign Ministry. Participants underscored the need to integrate young people more effectively into both domestic and international decision-making structures.
The summit is set to move into its core phase on Tuesday at the Prime Minister’s Office, where a full-day agenda is planned. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar is expected to attend as the chief guest, alongside other high-ranking officials.
Activities will feature a simulated General Assembly coordinated by the ICYF team, presentation and debate of committee resolutions, delegate speeches, voting procedures, and the adoption of final declarations. Additional parallel sessions will focus on enhancing collaboration among universities from different countries.
The program also includes a panel discussion centered on diplomacy, unity, and sustainable development in the Islamic world, bringing together lawmakers, youth advisers, ICYF leaders, and civil society representatives to exchange views on regional and global challenges.
