China News Service Gansu News, March 12 — (Wang Yongfan) Spring has returned to the earth, and farming activities are gradually busying up. In recent days, Zhangye City’s Linze County has seized the farming season, fully launching the spring wheat planting season. The fields are filled with the roar of agricultural machinery and busy farmers, creating a vibrant scene of spring plowing.

At San’er Village, Pingchuan Town, large-scale farmer Pan Feng’s 280 acres of wheat fields, a 13-row multifunctional seeder is moving steadily back and forth. As the machine passes, planting, fertilizing, and laying drip irrigation are completed in one smooth process. Neatly arranged ridges stretch behind it, sowing the hope for a bountiful harvest this year.

“Since yesterday, I’ve already planted 60 acres,” Pan Feng said. This year, he continues to choose the “Ningchun 4” wheat variety. As an experienced wheat grower for many years, he pays special attention to variety selection: “This variety has thick stalks and full ears, with strong resistance to lodging and diseases. The thousand-grain weight can reach 40 to 47 grams, ensuring stable yields later on.”

Good seeds paired with good techniques make farming more efficient. The “farming tool” Pan Feng mentioned is a multifunctional seeder provided by the Linze County Agricultural Technology Center, specially designed for shallow planting of wheat combined with drip irrigation and fertilization technology.

“This machine has 13 seeding outlets, completing planting, fertilizing, and laying drip irrigation in one go, which is very efficient,” Pan Feng explained. He calculated: “For 280 acres, manual planting and laying drip irrigation would take a lot of time and effort; now, with this machine, it can be finished in four days, greatly saving labor costs.”

It is understood that this seeder integrates precise seeding, seed and fertilizer co-planting, and shallow laying of drip irrigation belts, equipped with Beidou navigation and intelligent control systems, achieving intelligent, intensive, and efficient wheat planting. Compared to traditional row planting, this new technology adopts a wide-width precision seeding mode, which not only conserves water and fertilizer but also enhances wheat’s drought and lodging resistance. It is especially suitable for promotion in the northwest irrigation areas and dry farming regions.

Food security is a major national concern, and spring planting is the first battle of the year’s grain production. In recent years, Linze County has been steadily promoting the strategy of “storing grain in the land and storing grain with technology.” On one hand, it carefully selects and promotes high-yield, high-quality wheat varieties suitable for local climate conditions, so farmers can plant “reliable and high-yield crops.” On the other hand, it vigorously promotes advanced technologies such as shallow planting of wheat with integrated drip irrigation and fertilization, along with the deployment of various advanced agricultural machinery. The county continuously improves its agricultural technology service system to precisely address farmers’ difficulties and bottlenecks in grain planting, effectively motivating farmers’ enthusiasm and initiative.

Currently, the planting of 17,000 acres of spring wheat in Linze County is progressing in an orderly manner. High-quality seeds are taking root in the soil, and agricultural machinery is shuttling through the fields. Agricultural technicians are providing full support, laying a solid foundation for a bumper grain harvest this year. Through practical efforts, they are safeguarding every inch of farmland and every grain of rice. (End)
