Since 2021, the foundation's goal has been to promote the adoption of DOGE by businesses worldwide, as well as to research how to make DOGE more scalable and efficient as a global means of exchange, in order to increase its usefulness as a currency for everyday payments. This work is mainly funded by the generous donations of Vitalik Buterin and another generous DOGE fan who wishes to remain anonymous. Moving into 2025, the foundation is seeking to continue its ongoing open-source work, particularly through the new Dogebox decentralized infrastructure system, as a tool for enabling the first million grassroots retailers to accept DOGE as a direct payment layer. Dogebox will allow everyday businesses to self-host their online stores, integrate with existing systems, and enable regular node operators to participate in the decentralized payment system, providing rewards when people use DOGE to purchase goods and services. The foundation also stated that it is currently seeking major sponsors for 2025 to benefit from the construction of practical open-source programs, in order to achieve the future of decentralized payments.
