Gate News reports that on March 18, a security incident occurred at Khao Kheow Open Zoo in Thailand, where a man was arrested for illegally entering the enclosure of the popular dwarf hippopotamus Moo Deng. The zoo posted on Facebook on March 17 that around 5:17 PM, the man jumped into the enclosure and approached the hippopotamus herd, filming with a tablet. He briefly reached out to touch a hippopotamus but quickly withdrew. Over a minute later, with assistance from another person, he climbed over the fence and left. He was then subdued by security personnel and handed over to the police. The zoo stated that Moo Deng and the other hippopotamuses were unharmed but may have been slightly startled by the close contact with the outsider. The veterinary team will closely monitor the animals’ behavior. Moo Deng, born on July 10, 2024, quickly became popular online. Its name means “弹弹猪” (“Bouncy Pig”) in Thai. The zoo is located in Chonburi Province, Thailand, about a two-hour drive from Bangkok.
