New Zealand AI Agriculture Startup Halter Reports Series B Funding Led by Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist Peter Thiel’s Founders Fund, Valuation Estimated at $2 Billion. The company is revolutionizing traditional livestock management with its innovative “AI Cow Collar” and “Virtual Fencing” technology.
Founders Fund Leads Investment, Halter Valued at Approximately $2 Billion
According to reports, sources familiar with the matter say that Halter’s current funding negotiations have reached a valuation of $2 billion. Due to strong investor interest, the deal is currently oversubscribed, and the exact funding amount is still being finalized. Halter completed a $100 million funding round in June last year (valued at around $1 billion at the time). Headquartered in Auckland, the company has established an office in Colorado, USA, and is actively expanding into the American market. Both Halter and Founders Fund have declined to comment on the funding news.

“Cowgorithm” Creates 24/7 Livestock Monitoring System
Halter’s core technology is called “Cowgorithm,” which uses solar-powered AI smart collars on cattle. Farmers can draw a line on a map in the mobile app, and the system automatically generates an invisible “virtual fence.” When cattle approach the boundary, the collar emits sound and vibration alerts to guide them back. Data shows that cattle typically learn to obey the virtual boundary within 10 days, no longer attempting to cross.
In addition to controlling activity zones, the collar provides 24/7 monitoring, including GPS real-time location, body temperature, health status, chewing activity, and reproductive cycles. Farmers can remotely control the system with a single click, guiding the entire herd to new grazing areas or milking stations. The system is currently subscription-based, costing about $5 to $8 per cow per month, and is widely used in New Zealand, Australia, and the United States, with a total of up to 700,000 cows wearing the collars.
Precision Agriculture Will Disrupt Traditional Grazing Models
In recent years, the AgTech sector has faced a decline due to high operational costs and low farmer adoption, leading many startups to bankruptcy and resulting in venture capital withdrawals. Traditional livestock collars (such as those from pharmaceutical giant Merck) mainly monitor digestion or provide disease alerts. Halter directly targets “behavior control” and “automated management,” eliminating the need for physical fences and reducing labor costs associated with herding cattle, bringing significant cost savings to farms.
