In Venezuela, one US dollar is priced at 421,000 Bolivars in the P2P market, while the official exchange rate is only 270,000 — the same dollar, but a 55% difference between the two markets.

Behind this number lies more than just arbitrage opportunities.

**The Survival Logic of Two Types of US Dollars**

The official dollar exists in reports, while the market dollar lives in wallets. One is the price the government wants you to believe, and the other is the result of people voting with their actual actions. When fiat currency confidence depreciates, why are people willing to pay 55% more to exchange for digital dollars?

The answer is straightforward — three words: to survive.

Hedge against inflation, quick circulation, and free cross-border transfer. 10-minute settlement vs bank queue approvals; real-time asset appreciation vs continuous devaluation; free cross-border movement vs layered restrictions. The choice is clear.

**From Single Anchor to On-Chain Over-Collateralization**

Most existing stablecoins rely on bank custody, with the constant risk of account freezing. A new generation of stablecoins is trying a different approach — through on-chain over-collateralization mechanisms, making the ownership of assets truly belong to users.

No longer relying on the credit of a single country, no longer constrained by traditional financial infrastructure — this is the next stage of digital asset evolution.

The 55% premium in Venezuela essentially asks an ancient question: whom do you trust? Trust the constantly devaluing fiat currency, or trust transparent, verifiable digital assets on the blockchain?

The market has already answered with actions.

This is the real market. Government digital currency can't fool anyone at all. The Renminbi is the same. It was about time to use stablecoins. A 55% premium says it all. On-chain assets are the future. The official exchange rate is laughable. Living in a dream. Venezuelans have understood this long ago. What about us?

55% premium is actually people voting with their feet. The official approach can't fool anyone. The official exchange rate is a joke. Who would actually exchange at that rate? Over-collateralization on-chain is definitely more reliable than a single peg, at least the assets are in your hands. This is the direction stablecoins should take; decentralization is the way to go. Venezuela is now a living textbook—a scene of fiat currency death.

hypothesis: that 55% spread is basically proof-of-work for surviving hyperinflation... people voting with their wallets, no committee required

A 55% price difference is not an opportunity, it's despair... The official exchange rate is just a joke, people would rather pay more to escape. Can the on-chain over-collateralization system save Venezuela, or is it just another new way to cut the leeks? The real problem isn't stablecoins; it's that fiat currency has completely lost control. What about the risk of bank accounts being frozen, or on-chain cold wallets being hacked? Sometimes you have to choose the lesser of two evils. That's why more and more people are going all-in on crypto; traditional finance has completely betrayed ordinary people. A 55% premium says it all; the people have already voted with their feet. The government's tricks can't fool anyone anymore.

What does a 55% premium indicate? It shows that people fundamentally don't trust the official system anymore, and this is the future.
