The suspect is accused of using phishing and social engineering techniques to impersonate Coinbase customer service and steal nearly $16 million from about 100 Coinbase users. He currently faces 31 charges, including first-degree grand theft, first-degree money laundering, fraud schemes, and other related crimes. During the investigation, police seized approximately $105,000 in cash and $400,000 worth of cryptocurrency. The district attorney’s office is pursuing more stolen cryptocurrency assets.
