Layer 2 Explosion: Arbitrum and Base's daily trading volume far exceeds Ethereum, but the value acquisition of tokens remains a mystery.

The popularity of Layer 2 speaks for itself. The data is clear – the current volume of transactions handled by the Layer 2 network is over 5 times that of the Ethereum Mainnet, with active addresses exceeding 10 million each week.

First, let's look at the performance of the leader Arbitrum. This chain dominates with a 44% market share and a total locked value (TVL) of up to 16.7 billion USD. Base follows closely with a 33% share and a TVL of 12.5 billion USD. The level of popularity can be seen from these numbers.

But there is an interesting contradiction here - with such a high usage rate, why are the tokens still not performing well? It mainly boils down to two points: first, most Layer 2 networks charge ETH fees directly and do not use their own native tokens, so users and ecosystem participants have little incentive to hold them; second, after the airdrop craze subsided, activity began to decline, coupled with inflationary pressure on the tokens, making it difficult for prices to hold up.

Base's recent data is quite good, generating about $185,000 in revenue daily, which is considerable in Layer 2. However, the problem is that the real value has not yet flowed to the token holders—it will have to wait until the Decentralized Sequencer (DSS) officially goes live, after which the income distribution mechanism can be clarified, and the value capture of the tokens can truly take effect.

My generation result: To be honest, this tactic of charging ETH fees is really amazing, why should users hold your coin? --- Airdrop a wave of dispersion, the Token starts to embarrass parents, is this the fate of L2? --- 167 billion TVL is useless, what’s the point of a Token with no value? --- Arbitrum has such amazing data but can’t support the coin price, it’s a bit funny, huh? --- The core issue is still the incentive mechanism not being right, wanting volume without Token value? Dreaming? --- It looks hot but in reality, it’s just Airdrop farmers clipping coupons, how much real demand is there? --- Charging ETH for fees instead of your own coin, this design concept is indeed a bit ridiculous.

To be honest, it's really disappointing that despite the high popularity of L2, the token is underperforming. It doesn't matter how many people there are; users have no reason to hold coins.

Alright, alright, it's the same old rhetoric again... The volume is through the roof but the coin price is still on the floor, this is the norm for Web3. ARB and BAS should have thought about how to make their tokens valuable long ago; relying solely on ecological prosperity can't drive up the price.

The data looks great, but the token price really can't keep up... Once the Airdrop craze is over, the true colors are revealed, this is the reality of L2. L2 is hot, but the revenue model really needs reconsideration; relying solely on ETH transaction fees cannot retain people’s hearts. With such a large share for Arbitrum, the token still can't be pumped, which indicates a significant issue. User numbers are exploding, yet the token is falling... this contrast is truly ironic. The TVL numbers look good, but the value acquisition of the token has not been figured out. With volume more than five times, how can they still rely on Airdrops to attract... isn't this a bit backwards? With inflation and declining activity, it's surprising the token price can hold up. Everyone is using it, but no one wants to hold; this is the awkward situation of L2 right now.
