Wu said that Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin disclosed his disagreement with the Future of Life Institute (FLI) and reaffirmed the d/acc (defensive acceleration) concept. Vitalik clarified that in 2021, he donated half of his SHIB tokens to FLI. Although he initially expected to cash out only $10 million to $25 million due to market depth limitations, FLI ultimately successfully liquidated about $500 million. Vitalik expressed concern over FLI’s subsequent shift toward large-scale political coordination and lobbying, believing that their approach of addressing risks through administrative restrictions (such as banning open-source AI) is fragile and prone to leading to power concentration. He reiterated his core stance on d/acc (defensive acceleration), recommending the development of open-source secure hardware, enhancing software verifiability, and biological defense infrastructure to improve society’s resilience in a high-capability world, rather than relying solely on political regulation.
