Complete Guide: How to Submit a KYC Registration Application on Pi Network in 2024-2025

To convert a regular cryptocurrency miner into a true owner capable of trading, you need to complete the KYC registration on Pi Network. This step is essential if you want to move your Pi Coins to the mainnet and perform real transactions.

What is Pi Network and Why Verify Identity?

Pi Network is a unique digital currency project developed by researchers from Stanford University. With over 47 million members worldwide, Pi Network has created an independent operating ecosystem.

The main purpose of identity verification (KYC - Know Your Customer) is to ensure community safety. Before you can withdraw mined Pi Coins and transfer them to the mainnet, you must complete this verification process. Although the process is relatively simple, many users encounter difficulties uploading documents, facial recognition checks, or other technical issues.

Prerequisites Before Registering for KYC

Not everyone can immediately submit a KYC application. You must meet specific requirements:

Age Requirement:

  • You must be at least 18 years old to apply.

Government-issued ID: Prepare the original of one of the following documents. Note that you will be asked to take a live photo of the document, not upload a previously stored image:

  • Passport (highly recommended)
  • Driver’s license
  • National ID card or Citizen ID

Clear facial verification: Your face must be clear and match the photo on your ID. The system will automatically capture your face via the front camera to verify you are the document owner. Ensure good lighting and a recognizable face.

Minimum mining duration: You must mine Pi for at least 30 days (not necessarily consecutive) before submitting KYC. This helps prevent fake accounts.

Time required: The entire process takes approximately 5-10 minutes.

Important note: These requirements may vary depending on your country and region. Eligibility criteria and service availability can change.

10 Detailed Steps to Successfully Submit KYC

Step 1: Download Pi Browser If you haven’t already, download the Pi Browser app from Google Play Store (Android) or Apple App Store (iOS). This app is necessary to access the KYC interface. If you already have it, proceed to step 2.

Step 2: Open Pi Network app and access Mainnet Launch the Pi Network app, then find and tap the “Mainnet” section in the side menu. This is where you’ll find instructions and tools needed.

Step 3: Complete the Mainnet checklist Tap on “Mainnet Checklist.” You will see a list of tasks to complete. Finish all tasks until you reach the “Submit KYC” section.

Step 4: Open the KYC application After completing previous tasks, the KYC app tab will activate. Tap it to start the KYC registration process. If you don’t see this button, you can directly enter “kyc.pi” in the address bar of Pi Browser to access the KYC interface.

Step 5: Select your country On the first screen, there will be a dropdown menu. Choose the country matching your ID information.

Step 6: Choose ID type Select the type of ID document you’ll use for KYC. Passports are highly recommended due to higher security and international recognition.

Step 7: Read instructions carefully You will see four slides explaining how to take ID photos and important notes. Read each slide carefully and tap “Next” after each.

Step 8: Take photos of your ID Tap “Add Front Photo.” The camera will activate. Take a clear photo of the front side of your ID. If the back contains important info, add that as well. Remember to take photos in landscape mode for best quality.

Step 9: Fill in personal information After uploading photos, you’ll be directed to a form. Fill out all fields accurately:

  • First name
  • Middle name (if any)
  • Last name
  • Gender
  • Date of birth
  • ID number
  • ID expiration date
  • Country of residence

Ensure all info matches your ID exactly.

Step 10: Face verification This is the final step. Tap “Ready,” and the front camera will turn on. Hold your face in front of the camera for the system to scan and verify you are the ID owner. Make sure lighting is good and your face is clearly visible.

Waiting Time After Submitting KYC

The review process can vary significantly. After submission, you may wait from a few days up to several months for feedback. However, if you provide accurate info and have enough verifiers in your country, approval can sometimes happen within minutes.

Your application status will eventually change to “Approved” or “Rejected.” If your documents are unclear or the system cannot automatically recognize key details like face, name, or country, you may be asked to re-upload.

How to Track Your KYC Application Status

To check your application progress, go to your profile in the Pi Network app. If you see a green checkmark next to “Identity Verification,” your KYC has been approved.

If you see a loading icon, your application is still under review. You can also check the Mainnet checklist. If the “Awaiting KYC Result” tab shows green, your KYC is approved.

Note: Many users report that the checklist tab does not turn green immediately after approval. This may be an issue with the Pi Network app. Rely mainly on the Pi KYC interface in Pi Browser to confirm your status.

How Pi Network Verification Works

With nearly 50 million members, the core team cannot verify each person manually. Instead, they created a decentralized system where verified KYC users validate others.

After you submit your KYC, your documents are sent to a verified validator. Once reviewed, the application goes to a second validator. If both confirm, you pass KYC.

Validators are often citizens of your country, making the process more accurate and faster. To reward their effort, you are charged 1 Pi when submitting KYC, which is also rewarded to the validators.
