Just scrolled through Pakistan's currency history and wow, the depreciation story is wild. Back in 1947 when the country was born, 1 USD was just 3.31 PKR. You could literally get more rupees for your dollar back then.

Fast forward to 2011, and the dollar rate in pakistan had already climbed to 88.60 PKR. That's a massive jump from the early days. But here's what really caught my attention - if you compare that 2011 rate to where we are now in 2024, it's even more dramatic. We're looking at 277 PKR per dollar today.

The real acceleration happened after 2008. Before that, the currency was relatively stable for decades. Then suddenly between 2008 and 2024, the rupee lost more than 70% of its value against the dollar. That's the period when things really started moving.

What's interesting is the trajectory - it wasn't even. Some years saw bigger jumps than others. 2019 was brutal with the rate hitting 163.75, then 2022 was even worse at 240. The depreciation pattern tells you a lot about economic pressures over different periods. Pakistan's currency story is basically a reflection of its economic challenges over the past few decades.
