Description: Four Russian citizens have been arrested in Thailand for using extortionists against more than 1000 companies and causing damage amounting to $16.5 million. Computers, phones, and digital wallets were among the items seized by the police along with more than 40 pieces of evidence. The hackers are believed to be key members of the 8Base extortion group, which is particularly aggressive in its tactics, not only encrypting victims' data but also publicly releasing stolen information if the ransom is not paid. In an operation organized by Europol, 14 countries participated in preventing attacks on over 400 companies worldwide.
