【Block Rhythm】Robinhood’s cryptocurrency business team recently revealed an interesting choice — instead of building an independent Layer-1 public chain, they decided to build their own Ethereum Layer-2 solution on Arbitrum. The person in charge explained that while this decision might seem unconventional, the logic is actually quite clear: directly inherit Ethereum’s own security guarantees and decentralization characteristics, combined with the existing liquidity in the EVM ecosystem, this saves a lot of trouble and allows them to focus all their efforts on the true core business — stock tokenization.

Currently, Robinhood’s own L2 is still in the private testnet phase, but the deployment of tokenized stocks started long ago and is already running on Arbitrum One. When the new chain officially launches, these assets and liquidity can seamlessly migrate over with virtually zero migration costs.

Looking at the numbers, this business is growing quite rapidly. In the beginning, there were only about 200 tokenized stocks, and now it has expanded to over 2000, more than a tenfold increase. This growth curve indicates that market acceptance of such products is rising, and Robinhood’s layout in this direction is indeed quite interesting.
