Gnosis Chain has conducted a hard fork at the blockchain level this week to recover funds related to the Balancer attack that occurred in November 2024, with total damages exceeding 116 million USD.

According to the announcement from the Gnosis team, the stolen assets have now been taken out of “the hacker's control”. However, the project has not specifically announced the proportion of assets recovered after the hard fork.

Gnosis stated that this amount will be transferred to a custodial wallet managed by the DAO. In the near future, the Gnosis community will vote to decide on the compensation plan as well as the distribution of assets to the affected parties.

The hard fork move demonstrates Gnosis's firm stance in protecting the ecosystem, while also sparking familiar debates within the cryptocurrency community regarding the immutability of blockchain and the role of community governance in major security incidents.
