CEX customer service reveals new scam tactics: users stage self-directed scams, forging "executive fraud" to try to pressure the platform
December 31, Year-End Approaching, Fraud Activities Are Frequent. CEX Customer Service Sisi Discloses a New Scam Case Today, Reminding Users to Stay Vigilant and Protect Funds. According to reports, a user complained to customer service that they were scammed by a certain “CEX executive.” The scammer promised to help resolve the issue but disappeared after receiving the payment. During the investigation, CEX found multiple suspicious points: · The chat content was extremely brief: The Telegram chat with the so-called “executive” was only one page, and the scammer did not verify any details. The user transferred funds under “high trust.” · Abnormal transfer records: The initial “scam address” provided by the user was actually the sender’s transfer address, very likely their own wallet; related transfer records also came from a certain escrow platform. · Missing key chat records: The user claimed that due to the scammer enabling privacy mode, the chat history was deleted, and only screenshots of “post-incident questioning” could be provided. · Fake and real executive accounts coexist: After verification, the account questioned by the user was confirmed to be a genuine CEX executive account. The executive was unaware of the incident, and the account was not hacked. After comprehensive verification, CEX confirmed that this was a self-directed and self-acted scam targeting CEX and its users. The user fabricated a “high-level executive scam” illusion through fake chat and transfer records, then used a real executive account to create confusion, attempting to induce customer service responses and pressure the platform through public opinion. CEX stated that in the past, due to multiple concerns, similar cases were rarely disclosed publicly, but this also somewhat encouraged illegal activities. This time, the decision to disclose publicly is to remind users to guard against new types of scams and to sternly warn scammers and speculators: CEX will resolutely protect user rights and interests, and will pursue legal responsibility for forgery, deception, and framing the platform. CEX reiterates: It will not proactively contact users through unofficial channels, nor will it ask users to transfer funds to designated addresses or pay any fees.
