Lighter Network's Block Processing Bottleneck Leaves Users Stuck

Abstract generation in progress

The Lighter Network is currently experiencing a technical setback that’s impacting its operations. Data shows that the Prover component has been unable to keep pace with the Sequencer in terms of processing speed, creating a significant backlog in the system.

The consequence has been particularly frustrating for users: block submissions have been frozen at 137759879 for more than four hours now. This standstill effectively locks down the network’s withdrawal functionality, preventing users from accessing their funds during this window.

According to reports, the root of the issue lies in an asymmetry between two core network components. The Sequencer is moving ahead faster than the Prover can handle, which disrupts the synchronized operation required for block finalization. Without this synchronization, the Lighter Network cannot advance to process new blocks or confirm pending transactions.

This incident underscores the challenges that emerging networks face when scaling their infrastructure. While it appears to be a temporary constraint rather than a fundamental flaw, the real-time impact on user accessibility remains a concern. The team will likely need to address this processing imbalance to ensure smoother operations and regain user confidence.
