U.S. Treasury Secretary: The government has begun to include law enforcement confiscated Bitcoin into the "strategic reserve" and will hold it long-term

According to reports, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the government has started to incorporate Bitcoin seized through law enforcement into the "strategic reserve," no longer disposing of these assets through regular auctions, but instead choosing to hold them long-term to strengthen the country's digital asset strength.

Currently, the U.S. government holds approximately 200,000 Bitcoins, worth over $18 billion, mainly obtained from illegal confiscations.

However, recent reports show that despite the reserve policy, the U.S. Department of Justice still sold 57 Bitcoins in January 2026, sparking criticism from senators who believe this move contradicts the spirit of the reserve and could impact market confidence.

This policy is generally seen as a significant positive signal for the Bitcoin market, reducing supply pressure and demonstrating government recognition, thereby enhancing Bitcoin's legitimacy and long-term value.
