Papa John's Elevates Ravi Thanawala as Strategic Move to Strengthen North American Leadership
Papa John’s International, Inc. (PZZA) announced a significant restructuring of its executive leadership on Tuesday, positioning Ravi Thanawala in a newly expanded role as Chief Financial Officer and President of North America. The promotion reflects Thanawala’s proven track record, as the company has delivered four consecutive quarters of positive comparable sales growth in its International division during his tenure, with each quarter showing sequential momentum.
Thanawala, who originally joined Papa John’s as Chief Financial Officer in 2023 before being elevated to CFO and Executive Vice President of International in 2024, will now assume oversight of the company’s North American operations. This includes responsibility for restaurant operations, business development initiatives, and financial stewardship across the region. He will report directly to CEO Todd Penegor, effective immediately.
The reorganization also includes adjustments to the International segment. Chris Lyn-Sue has been elevated to Senior Vice President and General Manager of International, transitioning from his previous position as Senior Vice President overseeing International Markets. Like Thanawala, Lyn-Sue will maintain direct reporting lines to Penegor.
The changes mark a strategic pivot for Papa John’s leadership structure. Joe Sieve, who served as Chief Restaurant and Global Development Officer, is departing the company as part of the restructuring. Thanawala’s appointment underscores the organization’s confidence in his capabilities, particularly given his interim leadership as CEO during the March-to-August 2024 period, when he helped stabilize operations during a transitional phase.
