Ethereum's Core Developers Push Forward Major Consensus Layer Upgrades
Ethereum’s consensus layer developers have moved forward with critical protocol improvements during their latest meeting, signaling the network’s continued evolution. According to recent reporting, the 172nd gathering of Ethereum’s core development team centered on several interconnected technical advances that will shape the network’s near-term future.
BPO2 Activation Marks Progress on Execution Layer
The activation of BPO2 represents a significant milestone for the consensus mechanism. This update addresses foundational aspects of how the network processes and validates transactions, reflecting the community’s commitment to refining Ethereum’s consensus infrastructure over time.
Blob Scaling Parameters Receive Adjustment
One of the more concrete decisions involved recalibrating the blob transaction framework—a key mechanism for reducing transaction costs through Ethereum. The Blob Target has been increased to 14, with the corresponding Blob Limit adjusted to 21. These parameter changes aim to optimize data availability and throughput on the consensus layer, making the network more efficient for layer-2 rollups and other scaling solutions.
EIP-8070 Sparse Blob Pool Confirmed for Glamsterdam
The consensus layer developers formally confirmed that EIP-8070, commonly referred to as the Sparse Blob Pool, will be integrated into the forthcoming Glamsterdam upgrade. This proposal enhances how blobs are managed in the network’s consensus mechanism, potentially improving memory efficiency and resource utilization.
Hegota Proposal Window Opens with Deadline
The formal proposal process for Hegota headlines has officially begun, with stakeholders required to submit proposals by February 5. This timeline provides the community with a structured window to deliberate and refine recommendations before the next phase of consensus layer development.
