Gelonghui March 9 — Recently, the job recruitment platform Maimai released “Social Job Search — Insights into the Job Market for Mid-to-High-End Talent in January-February 2026,” highlighting AI as the most competitive talent race track for the spring 2026 recruitment season.

From January to February 2026, the number of AI-related positions increased approximately 12 times year-over-year, far exceeding the overall growth of the new economy sector. The share of AI positions among all new economy jobs also jumped from 2.29% in the same period in 2025 to 26.23%. In terms of supply and demand, AI talent is clearly in short supply.

Regarding salary levels, AI positions are highly competitive, with the average monthly salary for new AI roles reaching 60,738 yuan, 26% higher than the industry average for the new economy sector. AI scientists/heads earn an average monthly salary of 137,153 yuan, topping the high-salary list. Positions such as algorithm researchers, large model algorithm engineers, and AIGC algorithm engineers also generally offer around 70,000 yuan per month.

Notably, companies are shifting their requirements for employees’ AI skills from “nice-to-have” to “must-have.” The report points out that 34.39% of newly posted job descriptions explicitly mention requirements for AI or large model-related skills, a significant increase from 22.35% in the same period last year. Nearly 80% of surveyed respondents said their companies have already set AI skill requirements, and over 30% have implemented assessment or training mechanisms.
