IT House, March 9 — Earlier this week, new Xbox CEO Ash. Sharma announced that development of the next-generation console has begun, codenamed “Project Helix.” The announcement did not reveal many details.

Meanwhile, Sharma held an internal all-hands meeting with Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella. There are rumors that Nadella gave Sharma an “unlimited check” for the project. However, Microsoft officially clarified that this was not the case.

Microsoft Chief Communications Officer Frank. Schofield stated: “‘Ash. Sharma has my full trust and has an unlimited check to reboot Xbox and regain gamers’ trust—at any cost’—I have never said this.”

This response was in reference to a video by YouTube blogger eXtas1s, who produced an 18-minute video analyzing the recent conference and the current turmoil at Xbox. Schofield specifically corrected one detail: the claim that Microsoft would provide unlimited resources to Sharma to revive the Xbox brand.

Clarifying this point seems a bit odd. After all, the announcement of “Project Helix” raises more questions than answers. Due to the “Xbox Everywhere” strategy (originating from the early success of Game Pass), Xbox’s game and hardware sales have been underperforming. The official statement about Project Helix only included some routine pleasantries, explicitly stating that the new console will be compatible with Xbox and PC games.

Sharma’s appointment, along with the sudden departures of former leaders Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond, appears quite rushed, hinting at significant internal turmoil.

It remains unclear whether Project Helix is a traditional console or another hybrid service attempt; also, how much Microsoft’s overall AI strategy will play a role.

As the Game Developers Conference (GDC) approaches, related information may be shared with developers, but externally, it’s clear that the plan is still being refined as it is implemented.

According to foreign media Kotaku, in this context, Microsoft’s insistence on the “unlimited check” statement, and even clarifying that “the next-generation Xbox does not have unlimited resources,” seems somewhat amusing.

IT House notes that some netizens, after Schofield’s clarification, asked: Is Xbox already finished? Schofield replied: “The fun is still ahead!”
