UAE air defences intercepting missile and drone threats**

The UAE’s ministries of defence and interior have warned people to“remain in a safe place” and heed“warnings and updates” on official websites, as air defences work to neutralise threats from Iranian drones and missiles.

“The Ministry of Defence confirms that the sounds heard in scattered areas of the country are the result of the air defence systems intercepting ballistic missiles, and fighter jets intercepting drones and loitering munitions,” the ministry said in a statement.

** Australia to deploy long-range reconnaissance plane to Gulf**

Australia will deploy a long-range military reconnaissance plane to the Gulf to protect civilians, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Tuesday.

An E-7A Wedgetail aircraft and supporting defence force personnel will be sent for an initial period of four weeks to help “protect and secure the airspace above the Gulf”, Albanese told a news conference.

Australia also plans to provide advanced, medium-range air-to-air missiles to the United Arab Emirates “in response to a request”, the prime minister said. Read more

Saudi Arabia condemns attack on UAE consulate in Iraq’s Kurdistan**

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has strongly condemned an attack on the UAE’s Consulate General in Iraq’s Kurdistan autonomous region.

The“repeated targeting” of diplomatic buildings is a“clear violation” of international law, the ministry said.

This comes after the UAE also called for an investigation into the incident, which caused damage to the building. There were no casualties.
