Legendary investor Stanley Druckenmiller, who once dismissed cryptocurrency as being "created to solve a problem that doesn't exist," now believes that cryptocurrency has the potential to replace the US dollar as the global reserve currency within 50 years. In a recent interview, he expressed doubt about the long-term status of the dollar, saying: "I doubt whether the dollar will still be the reserve currency in 50 years... maybe it will be some kind of cryptocurrency that I hate." Druckenmiller bought Bitcoin as a hedge in 2020 but later sold it. He also warned that "narrative-driven bubbles" represent the greatest risk facing the economy and compared the current market cycle to the "eighth inning" of a bubble. He criticized reliance on traditional "foolish" lagging economic indicators (such as unemployment data) and advocated that predictions should instead draw insights from corporate fundamentals and internal market data.
