【3690】Meituan's Wang Xing: Agent's Impact on Me Is Greater Than ChatGPT, Urges Employees to Stop Calling Him "Xing Ge" and Embrace New Trends

Meituan (03690) held a management communication meeting on Friday (13th). During the meeting, CEO Wang Xing discussed artificial intelligence (AI), stating, “The impact of Agent on me is greater than that of ChatGPT.” Wang Xing believes that the changes brought by AI will be much larger than those of the entire internet and are destined to create enormous productivity, which will also significantly transform organizations and work patterns.

“Mobile internet and the internet are not fundamentally different; they might be like roses and peonies. But AI compared to the internet is like monkeys and flowers—much greater in scale and impact.”

Wang Xing pointed out that for Meituan, digitizing the physical world will be a very important foundation for AI. Although large models are becoming smarter, “Even if Einstein were a secretary and asked him to book a restaurant, he still wouldn’t know if there are seats available. That’s not a matter of intelligence, but of information.”

He believes that the experience of “old experts” may not always be effective, and young people’s various “strange” ideas will continue to emerge. In the face of the AI wave, the only thing to do is to actively embrace it.

Additionally, within Meituan, Wang Xing is usually called “Brother Xing,” but during the meeting, he emphasized that everyone should try to reduce the attitude of “dengwei” (meaning condescending, patronizing, or preachy), and hopes employees will call him by his name internally.

“Starting from me, from this moment on, please stop calling me ‘Brother Xing.’ Just call me ‘Wang Xing.’ I don’t have an English name. Although I studied in the U.S., I don’t have an English name. We should start with ourselves and embrace new things and trends.”

Regarding internationalization, Wang Xing stated that the company is committed to internationalization and focused on it. “The company’s confidence in internationalization is firm, and the determination is clear, but it is not blindly expanding, nor is each business exploring separately.” He pointed out that the company’s firm internationalization does not mean all businesses should expand simultaneously at this time. The focus should be on the core—“instant retail.” Besides Hong Kong, Meituan Keeta has completed coverage of major countries in the Middle East Gulf region and is expanding in Brazil.

Wang Xing indicated that Brazil has long-term great value and is worth deep cultivation, but investments in Brazil should not be spread too thin. The company should select suitable locations, forget past successes, refine the model, and then expand. Therefore, Meituan will continue to develop steadily in Brazil but will not expand blindly.
