Moldova Trade Deficit Widens in January

Moldova’s trade deficit widened to USD 512.9 million in January 2026, up from USD 477.2 million in the same month last year, though exports outpaced imports, and recording the lowest trade gap since January 2025. Exports rose 27.8% year-on-year to USD 310.8 million, supported by stronger shipments to CIS countries (25.2%), the EU (35.1%), and other regions (15.6%). Meanwhile, imports rose 14.4% to USD 823.7 million, driven by higher purchases from the EU (20.6%) and other countries (11.2%), while imports from CIS countries fell sharply (-39.2%).
