Prime Minister Takaide Koichi Absent from Meeting with Middle Eastern Ambassadors to Japan Due to Suspected Cold

Japanese Prime Minister Takaide Koichi was absent on the 12th from a scheduled meeting with ambassadors from Middle Eastern countries to Japan, which was originally set to take place in the evening at the Prime Minister's official residence, as well as from a dinner with diplomatic delegations from Islamic nations. According to government sources, the Prime Minister was resting at the Prime Minister's residence due to a suspected cold.

On that day, the Prime Minister attended the House of Councillors Budget Committee meeting starting at 9 a.m., with breaks including a lunch recess, and left the National Diet after the meeting ended after 6 p.m. Afterwards, around 6:20 p.m., the Prime Minister received a medical examination lasting approximately 10 minutes from the Prime Minister's physician.

According to the original schedule, starting at 6:30 p.m., the Prime Minister was to meet with ambassadors to Japan from member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), composed of 6 Persian Gulf countries—including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, and other nations. However, the meeting was instead attended on his behalf by Chief Cabinet Secretary Kihara Minoru. The subsequent planned dinner with diplomatic delegations from Islamic nations was also attended by Kihara as a substitute.
