Cambridge University's latest research has found that the physical infrastructure of the Bitcoin network has extremely high resilience against network destruction, meaning the network can still survive even if 72% of the world's submarine cables are cut. The most significant discovery of the paper is that current Bitcoin nodes are overly concentrated in a few centralized cloud hosting facilities. If targeted attacks are launched against the top five global hosting providers or if they experience a total outage, it could severely damage or even paralyze the entire Bitcoin network system.
