Multiple Countries Pledge to Boost Nuclear Innovation at Global Summit

(MENAFN) Representatives from more than 30 nations gathered in Paris for the second Nuclear Energy Summit and committed to advancing nuclear technology and strengthening global cooperation in the sector, according to reports.

The event brought together heads of state, government officials, and senior delegates from numerous countries, along with leaders of international organizations. At the conclusion of the summit, participants released a joint statement titled “Safe and affordable nuclear energy for all.”

In the declaration, attendees promised to continue promoting innovation in nuclear technology while improving the efficiency, safety, and economic performance of nuclear power plants. They also emphasized the importance of strengthening the resilience and security of the global nuclear industry and its supply chains. According to the statement, participants further committed to supporting local industrial development, engaging stakeholders, and expanding capacity-building initiatives, particularly in countries that are newly considering or developing nuclear energy programs.

The summit, hosted by France in cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency, also highlighted international partnerships in the nuclear field. Reports indicate that China’s role in global nuclear cooperation attracted considerable attention and positive feedback from participants.

Cooperation between China and France in nuclear energy dates back to the 1980s, when the French electricity company EDF began working with Chinese partners. During the summit, EDF Chairman and CEO Bernard Fontana said that growing pressure to decarbonize economies, increasing energy prices, and the rapid expansion of data centers and artificial intelligence are positioning nuclear power as a key solution for future energy needs.

Fontana also pointed to improvements in project delivery speed and cost management, noting that Chinese partners have shared valuable experience in these areas while expressing appreciation for China’s contributions to their ongoing collaboration.
