(MENAFN) Iran on Wednesday denounced the missile strike on a primary school in Minab on Feb. 28 as an “unforgivable” war crime and demanded that those responsible be held accountable.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei emphasized that the attack, which Iranian authorities say killed 168 schoolchildren, cannot go unpunished.

On social media, Baqaei said a “double-tap American Tomahawk missile” strike carried out in Minab “slaughtered 168 Iranian little angels.” He added, “An unforgivable egregious war crime that must not go with impunity.”

According to reports, the attack targeted an all-girls primary school in Minab, a city in southern Iran’s Hormozgan province. Authorities report that over 170 people, including students and teachers, were killed in the strike.

The incident has drawn global attention amid conflicting claims over responsibility, though most analyses point to the strike being conducted by the US.

US President Donald Trump had previously suggested Iran may have been behind the attack, stating: “Based on what I’ve seen, that was done by Iran.” Following reports indicating the strike involved Tomahawk cruise missiles typically used by the US military, Trump also claimed—without providing evidence—that Iran possessed some Tomahawks.
