Does Altseason Still Exist? Yes — But Not Like Before
For many years, the crypto market has followed a familiar pattern: Bitcoin surges → capital flows diversify → numerous altcoins explode. But if you observe recent cycles carefully, you’ll see that the market structure is changing significantly. The likelihood of a “market-wide altcoin season” like before is decreasing. First: Institutional Money Focuses Only on Large Assets The emergence of ETFs like Bitcoin Spot ETF has changed how money enters the market. Most new capital comes from traditional financial institutions. However, these institutions have a clear rule: they only invest in large, highly liquid, and relatively safe assets. This means most new money is concentrated in Bitcoin, or at most a few major projects. The rest of the market is almost out of their “sight.” Second: Liquidity Is Becoming More Concentrated In the past, capital often spread gradually across the entire market, but now everything is very different. Money no longer flows evenly into all altcoins but rotates among a few hot narratives. Today it’s AI, tomorrow it could be memes, then switch to DePIN or RWA. As a result: Some projects surge dramatically, but most of the market remains relatively stagnant. Third: The Crypto Market Is Gradually Resembling the Stock Market The current market structure increasingly resembles stocks: Bitcoin acts as the core asset, similar to blue-chip stocks in traditional markets. Most altcoins resemble small-cap stocks, which only surge when there’s a story or speculative capital. This explains why, within the same cycle, most altcoins don’t increase significantly, but some projects can skyrocket dozens of times, like HYPE or Pepe. So, Will Altseason Disappear? The answer is: Not entirely. But instead of a “all altcoins rise together” season, the market may enter a structured altseason: Only certain narratives or projects lead the explosion. Most other altcoins remain nearly stagnant. The most important thing in the next cycle is not just buying more coins — but choosing the right coins. In a market where liquidity is increasingly concentrated, making the wrong choice can cause you to miss the entire cycle. But if you pick correctly, even a single project can change your entire investment outcome.
