Southern African Development Community (SADC) Sustainable Energy Week recently concluded in Zimbabwe. Several participants stated that SADC countries currently have an urgent need for new energy development and look forward to strengthening cooperation with China to promote their own green transformation. During the Energy Week conference, SADC Executive Secretary Elias Magosi said that less than 60% of the population in the SADC region currently has access to electricity, and the region still mainly relies on traditional coal-fired power generation. SADC should explore diversified energy development paths, especially increasing efforts in clean energy development to ensure energy security and sustainability. Kudakwashe Ndlukula, Executive Director of the SADC Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Centre, told Xinhua that China’s advanced technology and investment in the renewable energy sector have played an important role in the energy transition in the SADC region over the years, and China’s green development experience provides valuable insights for African countries. Madagascar’s Minister of Energy and Hydrocarbon, Ni Ando Juris Ralaitera, said that Chinese renewable energy equipment has technological advantages and reasonable prices. Madagascar looks forward to deepening cooperation with China to accelerate its own green energy transition. SADC consists of 16 member countries including South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe, aiming to promote regional trade and investment, ultimately achieving regional economic integration. (Xinhua)
