People’s Financial News, March 19 — According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website, on March 19, 2026, Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister, held a phone call with British Foreign Secretary Cooper. The two sides exchanged views on the Middle East situation. Cooper shared the UK’s perspective on the current Middle East situation, stating that in the face of an increasingly turbulent world, the UK hopes to maintain close communication with China, push for an early end to the conflict, restart diplomatic negotiations, and seek long-term solutions. Wang Yi outlined China’s position, noting that the Middle East conflict is still escalating and the fighting is expanding, which not only impacts regional peace and stability but also directly affects international energy, finance, trade, and shipping, harming the common interests of all countries. There are no winners in prolonged warfare; a ceasefire and peace are what people desire. China urges all parties to immediately stop military actions, resolve differences through equal dialogue, and jointly maintain regional peace and stability. As permanent members of the UN Security Council, China and the UK have a responsibility to uphold international peace and security. They should strengthen communication, act in ways conducive to peace, and work together to uphold the purposes and principles of the UN Charter and basic norms of international relations, preventing the continued destruction of the international order and erosion of the foundations of world peace. The two sides also exchanged views on China-UK relations and agreed that efforts should be made to actively implement the consensus of their leaders, strengthen exchanges, and continue to promote a long-term, stable, and comprehensive strategic partnership between China and the UK, providing stability and certainty in a world full of chaos.
