IT House March 11 News, Microsoft will soon cancel the default automatic email reminders for expired Teams meeting recordings. After the update takes effect, users will no longer receive email notifications when Teams meeting recordings are about to be permanently deleted from the server.

This change will be implemented for all Microsoft 365 users starting June 1. On March 10, Microsoft stated that many users previously complained that these reminder emails were not very useful, as they did not provide truly helpful information and only cluttered the inbox.

However, if users still wish to receive these reminders, they can manually re-enable the feature. This setting will be available on a per-user basis. Microsoft also plans to send a final notification email to administrators before June 1, informing them of the status of the toggle feature.

For organizations wishing to reduce notification emails, no action is required, as the system will automatically disable reminders. If they change their mind later, administrators can re-enable notifications using PowerShell commands.

It’s important to note that this change only affects the reminder method and does not alter the rules for deleting Teams recordings. Expired recordings will still be automatically deleted at the scheduled time and moved to the recycle bin, where they can be restored within a maximum of 90 days. The only difference is that the system will no longer automatically send reminder emails unless the user re-enables the feature.

In an environment where enterprise software is constantly increasing, employees’ inboxes are often overwhelmed, so reducing unnecessary notifications is generally a good thing. However, some users rely on these reminder emails. Microsoft stated that by providing an opt-in setting, they can meet the needs of different users.

According to IT House, Microsoft also plans to add more features to Teams in the future, such as improved bot control capabilities.
