just heard that Eugene Shen, co-founder and CTO of Plume Network, passed away this week. still processing this honestly. he was only at Plume since January 2024 but apparently made a real impact on the team

what struck me was reading about his background - graduated from UBC with a degree in engineering physics, worked at Robinhood during the crypto boom, then moved to dydx as a senior engineer before joining Plume. that's a solid trajectory in crypto engineering. his former supervisor at Robinhood, Johann Kerbrat, actually called Eugene Shen one of the core members of their crypto engineering team - someone who could handle high-pressure environments and helped onboard and mentor other engineers

Plume's statement was really touching. they said Eugene threw himself completely into the project and the community meant everything to him. the team is mourning right now but committed to continuing the work Eugene Shen helped build. honestly, losing someone like that who was so passionate about what they were doing... it's rough. sending thoughts to his family and friends
