On September 17th, according to The Block, Alex Mashinsky, former CEO of cryptocurrency lending platform Celsius, is facing a possible sentence of up to 115 years. Mashinsky's legal team submitted a memorandum to the New York area court last Friday, requesting permission for six former Celsius employees to testify in his criminal trial, including former CFO and Chief Revenue Officer of the company.
In July 2023, Maxinsky was arrested for allegedly defrauding customers and misleading them about the profit potential of Celsius. The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) accused Celsius and Maxinsky of raising billions of dollars through fraudulent and unregistered cryptocurrency sales, and manipulating the price of the company's native Token CEL.
Mazinsky's lawyer stated in a memorandum that as the CEO of Celsius, Mazinsky relies on the information provided by the experienced professional team around him and has no intention to harm anyone. They emphasized, "The government has informed the defense that its 'current position' is that Mr. Mazinsky should be sentenced to 115 years in prison according to the sentencing guidelines."#BTC
