Odaily Planet Daily: U.S. President Trump claimed Wednesday evening that his powers as Commander-in-Chief are limited only by his own “moral standards,” disregarding international law and other mechanisms that constrain his ability to deploy military force, strike global nations, invade, or exert pressure. In a wide-ranging interview with The New York Times, when asked whether his global power is subject to any limitations, Trump responded: “Yes, there is one thing for sure. That is my own moral code and my personal will. These are the only factors that can stop me.” “I don’t need international law,” he added. “I have no intention of harming anyone.” When further pressed on whether his government needs to comply with international law, Mr. Trump replied: “Of course I will comply.” However, he simultaneously made clear that when these constraints apply to the United States, he will serve as the final arbiter. He stated: “It depends on how you define international law.”
