Eugene Shen, co-founder of the RWA public chain Plume, passed away at a young age, and his direct superior had given him a high evaluation.

Recently, the RWA public blockchain Plume Network published a condolence article, stating that co-founder and CTO Eugene Shen passed away earlier this week. Many projects that had collaborations expressed their condolences in the comment section, and the team promised to continue advancing Eugene’s work, Plume. Eugene Shen graduated from the University of British Columbia and had worked at Robinhood and dydx. He joined Plume in January 2024.

Plume’s official statement is as follows: “It is with a heavy heart that we share a painful internal message. Earlier this week, we lost our co-founder and dear friend Eugene, which has left us in shock. Eugene was talented, curious, and poured his heart into everything he did. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones.”

The Plume team stated: “The team is currently in a mourning phase, supporting each other. We will focus on taking care of ourselves and each other in the coming days. This community means a lot to Eugene, who dedicated himself wholeheartedly to Plume, the team, and the community. We will deeply miss him and are committed to continuing to push the innovation of the Plume technology he helped create, promoting on-chain living. Thank you for your understanding and support.”

Eugene’s direct supervisor once gave a high evaluation.

Eugene Shen graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc), majoring in Engineering Physics. He worked as an engineer at the online brokerage Robinhood for about a year and a half, during which he experienced a period of significant liquidity influx. He also served as a senior software engineer at dydx and has been the co-founder and CTO of Plume since January 2024.

Robinhood’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of Cryptocurrency, Johann Kerbrat, was also Eugene Shen’s direct supervisor at the time. He once evaluated Eugene as one of the core members of the Robinhood crypto engineering team, capable of effectively scaling and supporting services in a high-pressure environment. He also actively participated in the onboarding and growth of many engineers within the team.
