According to DeepFlow TechFlow, on December 5, the official USPD protocol issued an emergency security alert, confirming that its protocol had suffered a severe security vulnerability attack, resulting in unauthorized token minting and liquidity depletion. The attacker exploited an advanced technique involving the “CPIMP”( proxy and a secret proxy) intermediary, preemptively executing proxy initialization during deployment on September 16 to gain hidden administrator privileges. By installing a “shadow” implementation and manipulating event data, the attacker successfully bypassed verification tools including Etherscan, remaining undetected for months before minting approximately 98 million USPD tokens and stealing around 232 stETH today. The USPD team has cooperated with law enforcement and security organizations to flag the attacker’s address to freeze the funds and has offered to regard the incident as a white hat rescue, stating that if 90% of the funds are returned, they will cease law enforcement actions.
