Senator Wendy Rogers has proposed three bills related to cryptocurrency aimed at changing the state's tax laws. SB 1044 and SCR 1003 seek to exempt cryptocurrency from property taxes, while SB 1045 prohibits cities and counties from taxing or slashing entities operating blockchain nodes. SB 1045 may pass in the state legislature, but SB 1044 and SCR 1003 will need to be voted on by Arizona voters in the 2026 election.
Wendy RogersArizona is one of the few states in the U.S. that has laws allowing the government to seize abandoned digital assets after at least three years. Rogers was a co-sponsor of the Bitcoin reserve bill that Governor Katie Hobbs vetoed in May and has stated that she will reintroduce it in the next session.
Other states are also considering different policies regarding digital assets, from exempting small transaction taxes in Ohio to proposing a 0.2% tax on digital currency transactions in New York. At the federal level, Wyoming Senator Cynthia Lummis has proposed exempting transaction taxes and capital gains under $300 before announcing her retirement in January 2027.
