A scammer impersonating Coinbase support staff is believed to have stolen over $2 million in cryptocurrency from users, according to blockchain investigator ZachXBT. By analyzing conversations on Telegram, social media posts, and wallet transactions, ZachXBT identified the “Canadian cybercriminal” behind the incident.

This individual is said to have used social engineering tactics to deceive users into believing they were Coinbase employees, providing fake support over the phone. The money was spent on rare username purchases on social media, nightclub services, and gambling. Despite attempts to hide by continuously buying and deleting Telegram accounts, the scammer’s identity was exposed through social media bragging. ZachXBT also traced the suspect’s home address from public data but did not disclose it. Users should protect their private information, avoid using the same passwords, store large crypto holdings in cold wallets, avoid clicking links or answering unknown calls, and contact official support directly.
