Sam Altman believes AI will be his successor at OpenAI

Sam Altman publicly stated that he does not oppose the possibility of delegating authority over OpenAI to an AI system itself. According to him, if artificial intelligence is expected to shape the future, it should start by operating the company that creates it. Altman said that he has achieved most of his personal goals and is currently just “playing for extra points,” staying on board unless AGI creates an entirely new kind of job.

He is investing billions of dollars to empower AI, while also promoting major projects such as custom AI chips, medical tools, social media platforms, and humanoid robots. Along with Donald Trump, Masayoshi Son, and Larry Ellison, Altman supports Project Stargate – a $500 billion plan to accelerate AI infrastructure in the U.S.

Inside OpenAI, there are still concerns about the pace of development, missed opportunities, and bold claims about AGI. Nevertheless, Altman believes that AGI will truly come from several moderate breakthroughs, rather than a single giant leap.
