According to CryptoSlate, in 2025, the on-chain transaction volume and DeFi market share on the Ethereum network reached a record high, but the mainnet fee revenue significantly declined. Data shows that Layer-2 networks generated a total revenue of approximately $129 million throughout the year, with only about $10 million paid to the Ethereum mainnet for settlement and security, while the remaining approximately $119 million was retained by Layer-2 operators, indicating that Ethereum forfeited over $100 million in potential fee revenue this year. Among them, Coinbase’s launched Base network generated over $75 million in revenue, accounting for nearly 60% of the total Layer-2 revenue. Due to the Dencun upgrade reducing fees, ETH prices fell by about 10% during the year, weakening the deflationary effect, but Ethereum’s TVL share in DeFi still increased to approximately 64%.
