Ripple has revealed plans to significantly expand the network support for its proprietary stablecoin RLUSD. In addition to the existing XRPL and Ethereum, the goal is to enable integration with multiple layer 2 networks to reach a broader user base.
Strengthening Interoperability through Wormhole Collaboration
The core technological aspect is the integration with Wormhole’s cross-chain interoperability protocol. Simultaneously, by adopting the NTT token standard, smooth transfer of RLUSD between different blockchains will be possible. This will allow users to seamlessly utilize the stablecoin within layer 2 environments.
Initial Deployment on Optimism, Base, Ink, and Unichain
The first phase of deployment explicitly targets four layer 2 networks: Optimism, Base, Ink, and Unichain. Through initial testing on these platforms, the plan is to verify system stability and practicality.
Expansion to the Next Stage Pending Regulatory Approval
The expansion of RLUSD is contingent upon regulatory approval from the New York State Department of Financial Services. After obtaining this approval, Ripple plans to support even more layer 2 networks, with phased deployment expected from next year onward. This cautious and strategic approach aims to ensure proper compliance with regulatory requirements while maintaining stable market penetration.
