The reason for the decline in markets after good inflation data in Bloomberg was called new tariff threats. This is stated in their article 'Stocks erase profits as tariffs overshadow inflationary path: market review:'
Stocks lost momentum, while bond yields increased after Canada retaliated with tariffs on US goods, causing traders to worry about the future of the world's largest economy, despite a slowdown in inflation, as indicated by the latest data.
Stocks barely changed after earlier gains that led the S&P 500 index to rise by 1.3%. This came after Canada announced new 25% retaliatory tariffs on goods produced in the US worth around 30 billion Canadian dollars (20.8 billion US dollars) following the Trump administration's decision to impose global tariffs on imported steel and aluminum.
