Zelensky directly states that Putin is "insincere," emphasizing to Trump that there has been no substantial shift in the Russia-Ukraine war
Ukrainian President Zelensky recently stated that he has clearly pointed out to U.S. President Trump that Russian President Putin’s public statements about “preparing to end the war” are inconsistent with Russia’s actual actions on the battlefield and in diplomatic efforts. Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine has observed continuously that Russia has not taken substantive measures matching a ceasefire or peace negotiations.
Zelensky pointed out that although Russia has sent signals of de-escalation in its public statements, it still maintains high-intensity operations in military actions, front-line deployments, and strikes on Ukrainian infrastructure, which undermines the credibility of the so-called “preparing to end the war.” He believes that when the international community assesses the progress of the Russia-Ukraine war, they should not only look at political rhetoric but also pay more attention to actual military actions and negotiation conditions.
In his communication with Trump, Zelensky also reiterated that Ukraine’s core position remains unchanged: any peace plan must be based on respecting Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He called on the United States and its allies to stay vigilant in their judgment of the Russia-Ukraine situation and avoid relaxing strategic pressure on Russia due to false signals.
Analysts believe that Zelensky’s statement aims to remind Western decision-makers to be cautious of Russia’s strategy of “diplomatic cooling and action escalation,” and also reflects that the current outlook of the Russia-Ukraine war remains uncertain, with limited short-term prospects for a comprehensive ceasefire.
